REMEMBERING REKITA POWELL

The Silver Lining is an educational documentary produced by Wander Powell-Hayes of her daughter Rekita Powell, to raise awareness of Renal Medullary Carcinoma, also known as RMC.

RMC is a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer that is strongly associated with sickle cell trait. The disease disproportionately affects young people and is often diagnosed at an advanced stage.
The documentary was inspired by Wander’s daughter, Rekita M. Powell, whose life and battle with RMC became the foundation for Wander’s continued advocacy.
Through personal stories, education, interviews, and community outreach, The Silver Lining seeks to:
Increase public awareness of RMC
Encourage individuals to learn their sickle cell trait status
Promote earlier conversations with healthcare professionals
Support affected families
Encourage additional education and research
Preserve Rekita’s story and legacy

Schools, churches, healthcare organizations, nonprofit groups, and community organizations may request a screening or educational presentation.
